Social commitment is a central issue at pfm medical. The Cologne medical technology company supports the work of Dr. Rainer Broicher, a local doctor with tetraplegia.

Dr. Broicher was born on a Monday before Lent – climax of the German Carnival season and ecstatically celebrated in Cologne – and is devoted to his home town and its carnival tradition.  He studied veterinary and human medicine in Hanover, Hamburg and Bonn and worked for over 10 years at his own ENT practice in Mülheim, Cologne, also performing surgery in nearby Opladen.
He was a member of Cologne’s Ehrengarde, the Guard of Honour heading the city’s carnival celebrations, and ran its youth dance troop for 10 years.

In 2013 he suffered a tragic accident with lasting consequences. Since then he has had tetraplegia and cannot move his legs, arms or hands. While undergoing rehabilitation he began to paint with his mouth.

He produced pictures of numerous familiar Cologne scenes which are now being published for the first time as a calendar. 2 € from the proceeds of each calendar sold will be donated to the Cologne Centre for Autonomous Living (Zentrum für selbstbestimmtes Leben Köln – ZsL), an advice centre run by and for disabled people.

pfm medical is proud to support Dr. Broicher in his work, both as an artist and on behalf of ZsL Cologne.
